چکیده
Primary, localised orbital amyloidosis has been reported previously in only 15 patients. A case with amyloidosis strictly localised to an extraocular muscle is presented.

Monoclonal origin of localised orbital amyloidosis detected by molecular analysis.
AIMS Primary localised orbital amyloidosis is a rare disease. The purpose of this study was to describe two cases of primary orbital amyloidosis and emphasise the value of molecular analysis of immunoglobulin gene rearrangement in identifying a monoclonal population of cells responsible for the amyloid production. METHODS Charts and biopsy specimens of each case were reviewed. Conventional li...
متن کاملHistopathologic Changes of Extraocular Mus-cle Fibers after Injection of Botulinum Toxin
Background: Use of botulinum toxin is becoming a popular way in treatment of some forms of strabismus. To evaluate the morphological changes in the orbital surface layer muscles of the rabbit eye following a single injection of botulinum toxin. Methods: 10 white Dutch rabbits weighing 2–3 kg received either 10 units (group 1; n=5) or 20 units (group 2; n=5) of botulinum toxin into the superior r...
متن کاملFocal orbital amyloidosis presenting as rectus muscle enlargement: CT and MR findings.
We report a case of focal orbital amyloidosis involving rectus muscles, which is an extremely rare clinical condition. CT scans showed rectus muscle enlargement with punctate calcifications. Heterogeneous hypointensity was present on T2-weighted MR images, and homogeneous enhancement was seen on fat-saturated contrast-enhanced images of the muscles. These imaging findings seem to be suggestive ...
متن کاملFocal Amyloidosis of the Orbit Presenting as a Mass: MRI and CT Features
Focal orbital amyloidosis is a rare entity and little is known about its magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features. In this case report, imaging features of a case of focal orbital amyloidosis presenting as a mass have been documented together with its histopathological findings. On MRI, a well-defined mass was seen as isointense with rectus muscle on T1-weighted images and heterogeneously hypo...
متن کاملPrimary local orbital amyloidosis: biochemical identification of the immunoglobulin light chain kappaIII subtype in a small formalin fixed, paraffin wax embedded tissue sample.
BACKGROUND Amyloidosis refers to a heterogeneous group of disorders associated with the deposition of chemically distinct amyloid fibril proteins. Precise determination of chemical amyloid type has diagnostic, therapeutic, and prognostic relevance. Although immunohistochemical techniques are used routinely to determine the amyloid type, the results can be negative or inconclusive, so that bioch...
